Dear Federal
Employees
Every Day
Please consider the 1st Amendment:
Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting
the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government
for a redress of grievances.
Yet Congress has made it illegal
for citizens to broadcast ads criticizing elected
federal office holders within 60-days of an election.
Nothing could be more contrary to the principles of a
free society and representative government. I ask
sincerely, what part of "Congress shall make no law" do
Federal judges, Representatives and the President not
understand? I am serious. If you believe I am
oversimplifying or that some how these words have a
different meaning than their face value please enlighten
me, for I fear I am living in a lawless land?
I implore you to sign on to HR 46,
the 1st Amendment Restoration Act and Senator Harry
Reid's bill to exempt the internet or ,better yet, write
your own bill to repeal the Federal Campaign Act
altogether. Do you remember the little ditty we were
all taught as children: "sticks and stones may break my
bones but words will never hurt me"? Surely citizens of
America can reasonably expect those who would lead us be
capable of shrugging off discouraging words or personal
growth when words strike home?
I invite you to enlighten me by
participating in blogs. Your criticisms, witticisms and
corrections will be appreciated. Let us all participate
in the Republic together as the 1st Amendment intended.
Sincerely,
You’re Constituent
